We are a team of visionaries committed to bringing clarity to the world, one pair of glasses at a time.

What began as a small initiative to collect unused glasses has grown into a global movement. With the help of local partners, volunteers, and generous donors, we have expanded our reach to serve communities across the world. From remote villages to urban centers, we provide the gift of vision to those who need it most. Every pair of glasses we donate is a step toward improving education, productivity, and quality of life. Together, we are building a brighter, clearer future.

Our mission is to make sure all young people and children get all the support they need, when they need it, no matter what it is.

Whether it is a reassuring conversation, financial help, education, professional training, or simply the assurance that they are not alone, we will make sure that everyone gets support that meets them where they’re at as quickly as possible.

We want to build a world where no child or youth feels alone and gets every possible help they need as soon as possible.

Our entire team wants to see a world where every youngster struggling in any way feels able to reach out and has people who’ll help them with education, jobs, and more. We want to spread out in every region so we’ll be reachable to all.

Meet the Visionaries Behind Gafas for Good

Our passionate team of founders is dedicated to making a lasting impact through accessible eyewear and eye care. Their collective experience, expertise, and heart drive the mission of Gafas for Good, ensuring that everyone has access to the vision care they deserve.

Leila Alfonso Savinovich

Leila was born to Cuban immigrant parents and raised in Essex County, New Jersey. In 1998, she began her journey in the eyewear industry, starting a summer job at an optical store. Over the past 26 years, she has gained extensive experience in various roles, from optical retail to ophthalmic assistant, to working in luxury optical wholesale, and even designing her own eyewear line. Leila co-founded Gafas for Good in 2016 with her son Carmine, driven by a passion to provide eyewear and eye care to those without access to them.

Carmine Alfonso Tuosto

Diagnosed with severe amblyopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism at just 9 months old, Carmine began wearing high-prescription glasses from a young age. His early detection and treatment were guided by his mother Leila’s knowledge and experience in ophthalmology. Inspired by his journey, Carmine began helping his mother collect and donate eyeglasses to various charities. In 2022, he decided to formalize and expand Gafas for Good, turning it into an organization dedicated to giving back and educating high schoolers about the importance of purposeful community service.

Myra Alfonso Marte

With nearly two decades of experience in the fashion industry, Myra is currently an operations manager for an eyewear wholesale company. Like Carmine, she has worn glasses from an early age and is passionate about raising awareness of early detection for childhood eye conditions. At Gafas for Good, Myra plays a crucial role by managing resources and leveraging her connections with large eyewear suppliers to support the organization’s donation efforts.

attends High Tech High School in Secaucus, NJ. I aspire to major in finance in university. I am passionate about helping others get access to eyewear because it feels amazing knowing that I’m making a real difference in their lives.

Sidharth Pate

attends Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, NJ. I am a member of the Seton Hall Prep Varsity Soccer team and intend to major in finance next year at university. I am excited about Gafas because it is a source happiness to know that Gafas has the ability to assist a wide range of individuals.
